Waco has officially launched a $1.4 billion Downtown Redevelopment Plan, covering over 100 acres along the city’s riverfront. This ambitious 12-year initiative is designed to enhance infrastructure, greenspace, and community spaces through four strategic phases.
Phase One, estimated at $482.5 million, will focus on park, floodplain, and street improvements in its first stage. The second stage will involve the construction of a new city hall, city office complex, as well as integrated parking and retail facilities.
Phase Two, with a projected cost of $621 million, will see the development of a 386,000-square-foot convention center, featuring a 2,000-seat performing arts venue, digital media studio, and black box theater. This phase will also include the addition of a 350-room hotel to support tourism and business events.
Phase Three will involve the redevelopment of the Waco Square District into a new Town Center. With a budget of $168.5 million, this phase will add 520,000 square feet of mixed-use space for retail, residential, and office use.
Phase Four, set at $131.7 million, will deliver a 6,000-seat ballpark, with future expandability to accommodate up to 7,500 spectators.
This transformative project underscores Waco’s commitment to revitalization and economic development, positioning the city as a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.
