MassDevelopment has selected VHB, Inc., a Massachusetts-based civil engineering and design firm, to lead a team of consultants in creating a master plan for the approximately 7,000-acre cantonment area at Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC). The planning initiative aims to assess current and future spatial needs of the base, while also identifying redevelopment opportunities for any surplus property.
Joining VHB in the multi-year comprehensive planning process are Sasaki Associates, Inc., RKG Associates, Inc., Innes Associates, Ltd., and Goulston & Storrs. Together, the team will work to optimize JBCC’s operational efficiency, support active military missions, and prepare the base for future needs. In addition, the master plan will explore opportunities to alleviate regional housing shortages and stimulate economic growth in surrounding communities.
Joint Base Cape Cod, located across the towns of Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee, and Sandwich, serves as a joint-use facility and is home to five military commands: the Massachusetts Army National Guard, the Massachusetts Air National Guard, Cape Cod Space Force Station, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, and U.S. Coast Guard Base Cape Cod.
