**Toyota to Invest Additional $10 Billion in North Carolina Battery Plant**

Toyota has announced plans to invest up to $10 billion over the next five years at its new battery manufacturing facility in Liberty, North Carolina. This latest commitment brings the automaker’s total investment in the site to nearly $14 billion. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to create more than 5,000 new jobs.

Spanning 1,850 acres, the mega site will have the capacity to produce up to 30 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of lithium-ion batteries annually. It is set to become Toyota’s North American hub for engineering and assembling batteries used in a wide range of electrified vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

The facility will feature 14 battery production lines to support this diverse vehicle lineup. Batteries produced at the plant will power models such as the Camry HEV, Corolla Cross HEV, and RAV4 HEV. Additionally, the site will manufacture batteries for a yet-to-be-announced, all-electric, three-row BEV—the first of its kind from Toyota to be built in the United States.

Currently, the plant supplies HEV battery modules to Toyota’s Kentucky facility and Mazda Toyota Manufacturing in Alabama. Additional battery production lines at the North Carolina site are projected to come online by 2030 as part of Toyota’s broader strategy to expand its electrification efforts across the U.S.
