On Tuesday, Los Angeles County supervisors voted to extend the rent increase cap for rent-controlled units in unincorporated areas of the county. The cap, which was previously set at 3%, will now be increased to 4% until June 2024. This decision will impact approximately 270,000 households and was proposed by supervisor Lindsey Horvath.
Supervisor Kathryn Barger casted the only vote against this extension, stating that it unfairly burdens small landlords. However, the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA) opposed this decision and argued that rental housing providers were promised an expiration date of December 31st, 2023.
