**Applied Optoelectronics Commits $300 Million to Sugar Land Expansion**
Applied Optoelectronics Inc. (AOI), a leading manufacturer of transceivers for data centers and other optical communications products, has announced plans to invest $300 million toward expanding its operations in Sugar Land, Texas.
The company recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 210,000-square-foot facility located at 1111 Gillingham Street. The expansion is expected to be completed by this summer. In addition to the new development, AOI currently operates a 139,450-square-foot headquarters at 13139 Jess Pirtle Boulevard, just down the road.
AOI, which currently employs 387 people locally, has committed to creating 500 new jobs as part of the expansion. The company also indicated plans to further scale its presence over the next two years, targeting a total operational footprint between 2.5 million and 3 million square feet through acquisitions.
To support its growth, AOI is eligible to receive up to $3.75 million in state tax refunds. This strategic investment underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to job creation and technological innovation in the Houston-area market.
