According to the 2025 Ports Report by Savills, port activity in North America experienced a significant surge in 2024. Container volumes at the top 15 ports increased by 11.2%, reaching a total of 61.3 million TEUs. The report also provides data on weekly port congestion and warehouse labor dynamics, including supply, demand, and cost analysis. It also highlights major capital improvement projects underway at local ports.
Last year was the third busiest year on record for North American ports, with notable growth seen at the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma after a decline in volume during 2023 – their lowest since forming the Northwest Seaport Alliance. Together, these two ports handled over 2.6 million TEUs in 2024 – an impressive increase of16/7% compared to previous years’ figures.The second half of last year proved particularly successful for these two ports as they averaged nearly240000TEUS per month from July through December.
