SheWorks, described as a workspace and childcare community serving working women and families, has selected Old City Hall in downtown Tacoma for its first location in the city. The company will open in the historic property at 625 Commerce Street, adding a new coworking concept to the ongoing repositioning of the landmark building.
Lee & Associates announced the lease and represented the landlord in the transaction. Partners Harrison Laird and John Bauder of Lee & Associates handled negotiations on behalf of the property owner, while Briana Hickey of Neil Walter Company represented SheWorks as tenant broker. The parties structured a lease for a space totaling a little over 5,600 square feet within the remodeled Old City Hall complex.
The SheWorks premises are planned as a high-end workplace environment that also integrates childcare. According to the announcement, the layout will include flexible coworking memberships, private offices, conference rooms and collaborative work areas, with on-site childcare services incorporated into the space. This combination is intended to support professionals who need access to both modern office accommodations and family-oriented resources in a single downtown location.
Opening is scheduled for the fall of 2026, positioning the concept to come online as the broader Old City Hall revitalization advances. The property has undergone significant remodeling to convert the historic structure into contemporary commercial space, while retaining its legacy as one of downtown Tacoma’s notable civic buildings.
Leasing activity at Old City Hall has been building alongside the renovations. The SheWorks deal is highlighted as part of continued leasing momentum at the property, with eight leases now completed as components of the asset’s broader repositioning program. Ownership and its brokerage team are using the multi-tenant strategy to bring a mix of users to the building as it transitions into a modern workplace hub.
Commentary from Lee & Associates framed the SheWorks commitment as a meaningful addition to activity in downtown Tacoma. Laird noted that the new coworking and childcare operation contributes to the “growing energy” in the urban core, aligning the historic asset with current demand for flexible office solutions and amenity-rich environments. The lease underscores how a refurbished legacy building can attract contemporary workspace concepts as part of a wider downtown revitalization effort.
