A new outpost of the Scum & Villainy Rendezvous Cantina is headed to Downtown Burbank, where the experiential bar and restaurant concept will open an expanded, 5,300-square-foot venue later this year. The location will be the second for the brand, building on its original Hollywood cantina and extending its multiverse-themed hospitality offering to another part of the region’s entertainment corridor.
Scum & Villainy creator and managing partner J.C. Reifenberg said the Burbank expansion has been a long-standing goal, pointing to the area’s role as the heart of the entertainment industry with major studios, year-round creative professionals, and a steady flow of entertainment-focused visitors. That concentration of content creators, industry workers, and fans provides a built-in audience for an immersive, fandom-oriented destination.
Launched in 2016, Scum & Villainy gained attention for catering to a wide range of fan communities, from Star Trek and Marvel enthusiasts to guests drawn by broader pop-culture references stretching “to infinity and beyond.” The concept blends themed design, costuming, and interactive elements with a traditional bar and restaurant format, positioning the venue as both a neighborhood hangout and a destination experience for visitors.
The new Downtown Burbank cantina will be located at 346 N. First St., placing it in a walkable area that already draws local residents, workers, and tourists. By increasing its overall footprint compared to the original Hollywood location, the brand is setting up the Burbank space to host a wider range of programming and fan-focused activities.
To deepen its role in the local creative ecosystem, the expanded location is planned to include a podcast studio, streaming capabilities, and a dedicated stage. These elements are intended to support content creation, live recordings, fan meetups, and other performance-driven events that align with the entertainment-oriented character of the Burbank market.
In addition to operating as a hospitality venue, the Downtown Burbank cantina will also tap into community-based funding channels. The team plans to launch a Wefunder investment opportunity tied to the new location, aimed at assembling so-called Founders Fleets. This structure is designed to give fans and supporters a chance to participate financially in the concept’s growth, adding an investment dimension to the brand’s existing fan engagement strategy.
With the Hollywood original as a backdrop, the Downtown Burbank expansion underscores how experiential hospitality brands are looking to scale within key entertainment hubs. By pairing a larger footprint with production-oriented amenities and a crowdfunding initiative, the new Scum & Villainy cantina is positioned to serve as both a themed gathering place and a platform for ongoing creative and fan-driven activity in the district.
