University Health is putting the finishing touches on its latest expansion project, a new Women’s & Children’s Hospital that will span 1.1 million square feet in the heart of the South Texas Medical Center. The $749 million facility has been designated as a Level IV Natal Intensive Care Unit and Level IV Maternal Center, which is the highest state designation for this type of care available.

The 12-story tower is set to open in late August and according to San Antonio Business Journal reports it will provide much needed bed capacity while also drawing top-tier medical talent to San Antonio. It will house 300 beds with 58,000 square feet dedicated solely for OB-GYN services including labor and delivery suites along with a children’s emergency department.

In addition to these features, there are plans for an attached three story building housing pharmacy services as well as dining areas at an estimated total cost of $749 million which includes construction costs for both parking structures and associated spaces .
