Station42, a 368-unit upscale apartment complex, is set to open at the corner of South W.S. Young Dr and Veteran’s Memorial Blvd in Killeen with NRP as its builder. The project offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans starting at around $1,000 per month with amenities such as a resort-style pool, private garages and dog park included.
The $51 million complex has been built to boost the economy of downtown Killeen which has seen deterioration for decades despite efforts from current and past city councils alike. Mayor Debbie Nash-Kiing commented on this saying “We have to face reality; the downtown area has been declining for several years now – two grocery stores closed down while churches relocated out of town too.” Furthermore she added that “one of the largest private businesses downtown is planning to move elsewhere”.
To ensure affordability fifty percent of its units are rate limited so that rent will be reduced by 20 percent for those who qualify based on 80 percent of median income in this area .
This new rental community hopes to liven up Downtown Killeen through increased economic activity generated from it’s construction .
