Related Midwest has unveiled the latest renderings for The 78, a proposed development in Chicago’s South Loop area that includes plans for a new White Sox stadium. The state-of-the-art ballpark would relocate the team from their current home at Guaranteed Rate Field in Bridgeport to a 60-acre site known as “The 78.”
According to Related Midwest, this project will not only bring an upgraded stadium to the riverfront of the South Loop but also serve as a catalyst for creating Chicago’s next premier neighborhood. It is expected to generate thousands of jobs during both construction and operation phases.
In addition, conceptual ideas have been presented for revitalizing the surrounding community with new housing options and potentially converting Guaranteed Rate Field into a soccer stadium. The team’s lease at their current field expires after the 2029 season.
