PeaceHealth has announced the commencement of a comprehensive process to close its underutilized University District hospital in Eugene, Oregon. The health system plans to transfer inpatient rehabilitation, emergency and medical services to its RiverBend campus in Springfield upon receiving regulatory approval.

Since opening back in 2008, the RiverBend hospital has increased capacity and access while community reliance on the University District facility has decreased due to declining patient volume that resulted into losses averaging $2 million per month.
“After careful consideration and an ongoing ethical discernment process, PeaceHealth decided it was best for all parties involved to close down the University District hospital,” said Alicia Beymer – Chief Administrative Officer of PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at University District. “We believe consolidating some services at RiverBend will provide an enhanced care experience.” Based out of Vancouver Washington; Peace Health is a not-for-profit Catholic health system providing care across Washington State, Oregon & Alaska
