The newly opened “micro mill” in Mesa, Arizona is set to produce 500,000 tons of high-quality rebar and merchant bar products. Commercial Metal Company (CMC) has launched its third micro mill, Steel Arizona 2, which utilizes a continuous production process for melting, casting and rolling activities. This innovative approach allows CMC to significantly reduce energy consumption compared to traditional steelmaking methods by using recycled scrap as raw material instead of virgin natural resources. As a result, CMC claims that the new micro mill will help decrease CO2 emissions by 58 percent.

Employing approximately 185 individuals and with an expected annual capacity of half a million tons including 150,000 tons of merchant products, the new micro mill marks another milestone for CMC’s commitment towards sustainable steel production practices.
