Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has announced that Meta Platforms Inc., the company behind popular products such as Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, will be establishing a new $800 million data center campus in Indiana. This move is part of Meta’s plan to expand its operations and meet the growing demand for its services.
The new facility will cover nearly 700,000 square feet at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville. It will be Meta’s 18th data center in the U.S. and 22nd worldwide. Construction is set to begin this month with an expected completion date of 2026. The project is estimated to create over 1,250 jobs during peak construction and employ around 100 people once operational.
To support this investment by Meta, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation has committed to providing tax exemptions for a minimum of $800 million in eligible capital over a period of up to 35 years. If additional investments are made within that time frame at the site amounting to another $800 million or more each time, then further tax exemptions can be granted for up to an additional five years per investment cycle.
