Melmark, a leading organization in the field of human services, has announced plans to begin construction on an adult community in Tewksbury, MA by early 2025. This project aims to meet the growing demand for evidence-based and instructional services for individuals with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities in Massachusetts.

The estimated cost of this pilot project is $15 million. Melmark has partnered with Caveney Architectural Collaborative to design four residences that will accommodate 20 adults. The campus will also include a vocational day program for over 50 individuals, a coffee shop social enterprise focused on vocational training, daily living activities and support services, as well as opportunities for community engagement and recreation. Vantage Builders has been chosen to oversee the construction process on the three-acre site.

According to Rita M. Gardner, President and CEO of Melmark: “Our goal is not only to provide high-quality care but also create an inclusive environment where individuals can age comfortably within their own community.” This campus-based model emphasizes full integration into society while sharing resources among residents so they can remain there throughout their entire lifespan.
