McCarthy Building Cos. has completed construction of CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital, a new community hospital in Ringgold, a city in Catoosa County along the Georgia-Tennessee border. The $90 million facility spans 134,000 square feet and represents a major healthcare investment for the area. The project is notable as the first new hospital delivered to this community in seven decades, replacing aging medical infrastructure with a contemporary inpatient care environment.
Designed by Hoefer Welker as the design-build architect, the hospital was planned to integrate closely with the existing medical campus. The new 64-bed inpatient hospital replaces a 70-year-old medical facility and physically connects to the current physician office building. This configuration positions the hospital as a central anchor for the broader medical campus, consolidating clinical services and supporting more coordinated care.
The facility incorporates a full-service emergency department equipped for critical care, along with imaging services and operating rooms that support a range of surgical procedures. A dedicated GI department is included to serve gastrointestinal patients, while an on-site pharmacy supports inpatient care and hospital operations. The hospital also features a modernized kitchen and food service area designed to improve dietary service delivery for patients and staff.
Clinical support functions are organized around a laboratory and a sterile processing department, both essential to diagnostic workflows and surgical operations. These departments are located within the new hospital to streamline testing, results, and instrument preparation, which can reduce delays in care. The inclusion of these services within the hospital footprint reflects an emphasis on supporting acute care with on-site diagnostics and back-of-house capabilities.
In terms of patient accommodations, the hospital includes eight intensive care unit rooms for higher-acuity patients and 56 medical and surgical rooms for general inpatient care. Within this total, five isolation rooms are provided to support infection control protocols and the treatment of patients requiring separation from the general population. The bed mix underscores the hospital’s role in serving a range of medical and surgical needs for the Ringgold community and surrounding area.
The hospital program also incorporates non-clinical and supportive spaces. A chapel provided by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth offers a dedicated area for reflection and spiritual support for patients, families, and staff. On the same site, the Rees Skillern Cancer Institute and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Cancer Center provide specialized oncology and breast health services, expanding the range of care available on the campus and reinforcing the site as a regional hub for comprehensive healthcare.
