Gotion, a leading Chinese manufacturer of EV batteries, has announced its decision to establish a new $2 billion lithium battery plant in Illinois. This development is part of the company’s expansion into the U.S. market and marks another significant investment in green energy by Chinese companies.

The chosen location for the facility is Manteno, where Gotion will utilize a 150-acre site to build its state-of-the-art production facility. The project is expected to create 2,600 jobs and commence operations next year.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker expressed his support for Gotion’s investment and highlighted that it will be backed by REV (Invest in Illinois) fund as well as other incentives worth $536 million. Notably, Gotion will become the first recipient of this funding program while also receiving property tax abatement for 30 years.

Pritzker further added that with this massive gigafactory project and creation of thousands of jobs, Illinois continues to demonstrate its potential as an attractive destination for business investments. The state remains committed towards fostering economic growth through such partnerships with global players like Gotion.
