MassHousing recently closed on $25.4 million in financing, including $13 million from the Massachusetts Community Climate Bank (MCCB), to support deep energy retrofit projects at two affordable housing communities: Treehouse at Easthampton Meadow in Easthampton and the Brian J. Honan Apartments in Allston.
This financing marks the MCCB’s first investment commitments to affordable rental housing communities. Both properties will use the funding from MassHousing and the Climate Bank to initiate extensive energy efficiency upgrades aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving sustainability.
The projects are part of a new demonstration program launched by MassHousing and the MCCB to accelerate deep energy retrofits across affordable housing developments in Massachusetts. These upgrades are expected to enhance the living conditions for residents through improved building performance, lower utility costs, and increased environmental resilience.
“The deep energy retrofits at Treehouse at Easthampton Meadow and the Brian J. Honan Apartments demonstrate how clean energy and affordable housing investment work together to create better outcomes for low-income residents and our climate,” said MassHousing CEO Chrystal Kornegay.
