Medical City Lewisville is set to embark on a $16 million project in September, designed to improve the birthing experience for families and prioritize infant health. The project includes expansion of its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) as well as renovation of the labor and delivery unit. Both units are due for upgrades, with the NICU not having been renovated since it was built in 2001 and no major construction taking place in labor and delivery since then. The NICU will be expanded from 16 beds to 21 beds to meet increasing demand; over 1,863 babies were delivered at Medical City Lewisville last year alone – representing a 15% population growth from 2010-2020.
The women’s services department currently has 130 employees but anticipates seeing a 10%-15% growth due this project; two additional obstetrician providers are also planned for addition. With these improvements underway, Medical City Lewisville looks forward to providing an enhanced birthing experience while continuing their commitment towards infant health excellence into 2021 and beyond
