Kansas City has recently allocated $750,000 from surplus Midtown tax increment financing revenue to the last residential portion of the multiphase Midtown Plaza project. According to the Kansas City Business Journal, this project covers over 5.2 acres and was previously occupied by a Missouri Gas Energy call center building.

Kartel Capital and Cohen-Esrey Development Group completed the first phase in 2021, transforming the seven-story building into 108 units known as Midtown Plaza Apartments. The approved funds will aid in starting construction for the final phase of this development.

The revised plans by Kartel Capital for this project include a structure with 202 residences and an additional retail and office space spanning over 18,000 square feet south of the former call center building. This development not only repurposes unused property but also meets affordable housing standards set by Kansas City officials.
