Construction Milestone: First Phase of Fort Worth Convention Center Expansion Complete

Construction crews have successfully completed the $95 million first phase of the Fort Worth Convention Center expansion. Launched in 2023, this initial phase includes several major upgrades aimed at enhancing the functionality and appeal of the downtown facility. Key improvements feature a newly constructed southeast entrance, expanded food and beverage options including a coffee bar, and the demolition of the existing annex to make way for double loading docks. Additionally, Commerce Street has been realigned to create a dedicated site for a future hotel.

The ambitious plan will move forward with a second phase estimated at $606 million, projected to begin in late 2026 and reach completion by 2030. Significantly, the convention center will remain open to the public throughout the construction process to avoid disruption to ongoing events.

To support the funding of the project, Fort Worth voters approved a hospitality tax increase in May 2024.

Tourism remains a vital economic engine for Fort Worth, generating approximately $3.5 billion annually and supporting more than 30,000 local jobs.

The construction is being managed by a joint venture consisting of AECOM Hunt, Byrne Construction Services, and E.J. Smith Construction.
