**Early Phase of Abilene AI Project Now Operational**
Construction is progressing on the initial phases of the Stargate Project in Abilene, Texas, with portions of the facility already operational. Located about 150 miles west of Fort Worth, the city is the launch site of a planned 1.2-gigawatt data center that marks the first step in the ambitious Stargate Project. The $500 billion, four-year initiative aims to build large-scale data centers across the United States to support AI development and infrastructure. The project is being led by tech powerhouses Oracle and OpenAI.
According to reports from the Dallas Business Journal, Oracle has begun the delivery of the first Nvidia GB200 racks, which are specifically designed for high-performance AI applications. When fully completed by mid-2026, the sprawling data campus will encompass eight buildings and cover nearly four million square feet.
The Stargate Project is expected to serve as a key economic driver for Abilene and the surrounding region. Thousands of jobs are already available, and as construction progresses, additional positions are projected to open. OpenAI has indicated that there will be increasing demand for roles such as electricians, equipment operators, and technicians.
The Abilene project represents a significant leap forward in establishing the infrastructure necessary to support AI technologies on a national scale.
