Towns north of Austin are experiencing rapid growth due to the construction of a $17 billion Samsung chip plant near Taylor, expected to open next year. Experts anticipate between 150 and 200 suppliers will populate the area in the near future. Hutto is preparing for this influx by assembling 1,400 acres for economic development opportunities. According to reports from Austin Business Journal, two large projects have been approved by Hutto city officials: PowerCampus Austin from Skybox Datacenter and Prologis; an industrial park called Hutto Mega TechCenter being built by Titan Development. The PowerCampus data center could eventually total 3.9 million square feet across six buildings on 159 acres with a minimum capital investment of $10 billion while plans call for upward of 2 million square feet within 188-acre Hutto Mega TechCenter ranging from 200,000 – 1 million square feet each building respectively with an estimated cost at $3 billion dollars overall .
