Florida Power & Light recently acquired a 40,000-acre ranch in Osceola for $212 million. The property, known as El Maximo Ranch, was purchased from an entity associated with the Investment Corp. of Dubai and is expected to be developed into a solar farm.
The land had previously been sold in two separate transactions in 2018 for a total of $144.4 million. Located south of State Road 60 and east of the Kissimmee River, the former ranch offers ample space for FPL’s proposed project.
If completed as planned, this would be the largest solar farm in the country surpassing Solar Star – currently considered to be America’s largest at 3,200 acres – located in California.
With over 11,747 megawatts already installed across Florida ranking it third nationally; there is enough solar energy generated within its borders to power approximately1 .4 million homes while creating more than11 ,761 jobs within its growing industry sector.
This significant acquisition by Florida Power & Light marks another milestone towards achieving renewable energy goals and further solidifies their position as leaders within this rapidly expanding market segment.
