Urban Retail Properties has recently announced a 15-year lease agreement with Presidente Supermarkets, which will serve as the anchor tenant for the first residential tower in Southland Mall’s transformation into Southplace City Center. According to reports from S. Florida Business Journal, construction on the eight-story building is set to begin this summer and will feature 350 units on the former Sears site.

Over a span of seven years, Southland City Center will be developed into a bustling hub featuring 5,000 apartment units and over half a million square feet of retail space including dining and entertainment options within the existing mall. Additionally, there will be an additional 150,000 square feet of new retail and restaurant space located on outparcels along with a hotel boasting 150 rooms and medical office space totaling at around 60,000 square feet. Notable tenants expected to join Presidente Supermarkets include Macy’s JCPenney LA Fitness Regal Theater DSW Old Navy.

Presidente Supermarkets was established in Florida back in1990 as privately held company currently operating dozens of stores throughout state lines.
