**Hines Selected to Redevelop Former Hobby State Office Building in Austin**
Hines has signed a ground lease with the Texas General Land Office (GLO) for the former William P. Hobby Jr. State Office Building site in downtown Austin, marking the beginning of a major redevelopment project.
Originally built as a 419,000-square-foot state office complex, the Hobby Building has fallen into disrepair and is slated for demolition. In 2023, the GLO issued a call for redevelopment proposals aimed at transforming the nearly two-acre city-block property into a new mixed-use destination.
Hines is currently in the preliminary planning phase and has not yet disclosed specific redevelopment plans. However, the GLO has expressed a desire for the site to incorporate a mix of residential and commercial uses, with workforce housing anticipated as a key component.
Located in a prime area of downtown Austin, the Hobby Building site holds significant potential for revitalization and community impact.
