Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has begun construction on a new airline terminal, with an expected completion date of 2026. The $404 million project will cover 230,000 square feet and add five additional gates for domestic flights, bringing the airport’s total to 71.
This expansion is in response to the growing number of passengers and airlines utilizing the airport. The new terminal will have capacity for an additional 4-5 million passengers and will feature increased baggage claim areas as well as a variety of dining and retail options. Funding for this project comes from various sources including airport bonds backed by airlines and $80 million in state grants from the Florida Department of Transportation.
The development at Fort Lauderdale Airport is projected to create approximately 3,400 jobs through direct employment opportunities in construction-related industries as well as indirect employment at local small businesses. Once completed, it is estimated that around 1,000-1,250 permanent positions will be available at the new terminal.
This latest addition to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport marks another milestone in its continued growth strategy without mentioning any specific organizations or brands involved.
