Friedman Real Estate, headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan, has recently acquired two of the seven Renaissance Center towers in Detroit. The company plans to maintain these towers as office space. According to a report by the Detroit Free Press , Friedman purchased the 500 and 600 towers from a New Jersey utility company that had owned them for several years.
These two towers span over 300,000 square feet each and were last renovated in 2011. Standing at a height of 21 stories, they are smaller than the other five RenCen towers. The RenCen was inaugurated in 1977 with four office buildings spanning over thirty-nine stories each surrounding a central hotel with seventy-three floors – now known as Marriott Hotel. General Motors owns all five original buildings and continues to have its headquarters located within this complex. One tower is fully occupied while another remains mostly vacant.
