The former Avon headquarters in Rye, NY has been acquired by the New York Blood Center. The 187,000-square-foot property will undergo redevelopment at a cost of $108 million to serve as office space and facilities for blood testing, research laboratories, and storage and distribution of blood supplies.

Preliminary approval for $52 million in tax-exempt bond financing was granted by Westchester County’s Local Development Corporation for the project. According to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, this adaptive reuse of a vacant building is evidence of the strong economy in Westchester.

Located at 601 Midland Ave., upgrades such as new HVAC systems and electrical equipment are planned along with new windows, roofing repairs/upgrades,and improvements to the building’s exterior facade. Additionally, new landscaping, paving, and construction of clinical/research labs will take place along with installationof exterior lighting.
