**El Tropicano Hotel Set to Reopen This Fall After Major Renovation**

The historic El Tropicano Hotel, a treasured mid-century modern landmark in San Antonio, is scheduled to reopen in the fall after undergoing extensive renovations.

Originally opened in 1962, El Tropicano is recognized as the oldest hotel located directly on the San Antonio River Walk. Over the decades, it earned a reputation as a glamorous destination, welcoming celebrities and dignitaries throughout its storied past. The property closed its doors in 2020, but a fresh chapter is now underway with Trestle Studio leading the revitalization efforts.

Renovations were initiated following the securing of a $79 million construction loan earlier this year. Once reopened, the reimagined hotel will feature 315 guest rooms, over 15,800 square feet of food and beverage spaces, more than 16,000 square feet of meeting facilities, and a full-service spa.

The project earned unanimous approval for a historic tax certification from the Historic and Design Review Commission. In addition to city support, state and federal tax credits are being applied, and the hotel will benefit from a five-year exemption from ad valorem taxes upon completion.

San Antonio-based Studio8 Architects is spearheading the design work, aiming to preserve the hotel’s iconic character while integrating modern amenities for a new generation of guests.
