Oxbow Development Group is moving forward with a redevelopment venture in San Antonio, which will replace the former headquarters of the San Antonio school district. The project, called “Southdown Aldea,” will be located just south of Hemisfair and will feature mixed-use buildings ranging from six to seven stories. These buildings will include both residential units and ground-floor retail spaces. Additionally, there are plans for a six-story residential building that wraps around a 600-space parking garage.
In 2018, Oxbow purchased the property from the school district for $14.5 million. The company has now submitted its conceptual design to the Historic Design and Review Committee for approval next week.
The first phase of construction is expected to begin in late 2025 and finish by either 2027 or 2028. This initial stage includes three structures with approximately 250 market-rate housing units as well as over 40,000 square feet of commercial space.
Local firms Alamo Architects and Don B.McDonald Architects have been selected as part of Oxbow’s design team for this project known as Southtown Oxbow Site Priming for Development.
