The Deerfield Board of Trustees unanimously passed amendments to the zoning code, effectively prohibiting motor freight terminals, logistics centers, fulfillment centers and truck parking or movement facilities. The changes were initiated by Mayor Daniel Shapiro and include new traffic plan requirements for special use permits over 50,000 square feet. Additionally, businesses proposing overnight operations or retail sales will now require additional special use reviews.
According to a report from the Chicago Tribune , Andrew Lichterman (Deputy Village Manager) stated that these updates make it clear that warehouse and distribution facilities are not allowed in Deerfield. This decision comes after local opposition and resident pushback led Chicago developer Bridge Industrial to withdraw plans for an industrial park at the former Baxter International headquarters.
The finalization of these code updates is scheduled for an upcoming board meeting on February 20th. For more information about Connect Industrial Midwest 2024 on March 5th at Joe’s Live in Rosemont, Illinois please click here .
