The Urban Land Institute Chicago (ULI) has published a new report urging the city to take decisive action in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings. The report, developed by 50 local stakeholders including industry experts, civic leaders, and public officials, outlines recommendations for accelerating building decarbonization. These suggestions include implementing emission limits on certain buildings similar to those used in New York.
According to the findings of the report, an alarming 69% of carbon emissions in Chicago come from buildings. ULI emphasizes that while leadership from the public sector is crucial, strong partnerships with non-profit and private organizations will also be necessary for successful implementation of their recommendations.
