Office building owners are no longer hesitating to address higher vacancy rates caused by the Covid pandemic. Examples of office space conversions to apartments in Dallas include Santander and Bryan Tower, among others. Now, the owners of another office building in Dallas plan to convert half of their property into residential units.

The first four floors of an eight-story tower located on 1600 Viceroy Dr., totaling 180,000 square feet, will be transformed into multifamily housing with 120,000 square feet dedicated for residential use and 30,000 square feet allocated for amenity space. The initial phase will deliver 80 units while the top floors remain as offices; construction is expected to begin this fall with completion anticipated by late 2024.

This latest conversion project demonstrates that office building owners are taking proactive steps towards addressing vacancy issues due to Covid-19 through creative solutions such as converting empty spaces into apartments or other forms of housing options
