**Santa Clara County to Purchase New San Jose Health Clinic for $340 Million**
Santa Clara County has announced plans to purchase the future Valley Health Center San José for $340 million, opting to buy rather than lease the facility. Located at 1410 S. Bascom Avenue, the 230,000-square-foot clinic is anticipated to yield long-term financial benefits, with county officials estimating savings of approximately $112 million over the next 30 years.
Initially, the County Board of Supervisors had approved a long-term lease agreement in 2022 with HSRE-PMB San Jose, LLC, which would have cost the county an average of $25.5 million annually. The decision followed a comprehensive facility needs assessment that highlighted the rising costs of renovating older clinical facilities around Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, the county’s primary public hospital.
Board President Otto Lee emphasized the strategic value of purchasing the property, stating, “This decision ensures sustainability and long-term community health. Given the financial challenges ahead, acting now to reduce monthly costs and secure a critical healthcare asset is both prudent and forward-thinking. This is a true win-win for our county.”
With this acquisition, Santa Clara County reaffirms its commitment to expanding and modernizing its public health infrastructure, while managing taxpayer funds responsibly.
