**City Council Approves Adams’ Jamaica Neighborhood Plan**
The New York City Council has officially approved the Jamaica Neighborhood Plan, a major initiative spearheaded by Mayor Eric Adams to revitalize and expand housing and infrastructure in Queens. Spanning nearly 230 blocks in the Jamaica neighborhood, the plan includes the development of 12,000 new residential units, with 4,000 designated as affordable housing.
“With the historic passage of our administration’s Jamaica Neighborhood Plan, we have opened the door to thousands of new homes, thousands of new jobs, and delivered hundreds of millions of dollars for new infrastructure,” said Mayor Eric Adams.
Carlo A. Scissura, president and CEO of the New York Building Congress, expressed support for the initiative: “This is how you keep a neighborhood strong—you build housing people can actually afford, you make room for local business to grow, and you deliver real public investment on the ground in Jamaica.”
As part of the plan’s rollout, an independent Downtown Jamaica Oversight Task Force will be established by the City Council to ensure continued community involvement and oversight during the implementation process. This task force will help guide the plan’s progress and ensure transparency and responsiveness to local needs.
