Lucid Motors, a California-based electric vehicle startup, has announced its plans to establish a research and development office in Southfield, Michigan. This move is expected to create over 262 new jobs in the area.
The company’s headquarters are located in Silicon Valley and it also operates a production facility in Arizona. The new Michigan engineering center will be their third employment hub. Lucid aims to open this office by the fourth quarter of 2024 at one of the Travelers Towers on Evergreen Road.
In support of this expansion, board members from the Michigan Strategic Fund have approved a $6 million performance-based grant for Lucid. However, this grant is contingent upon creating all 262 jobs by June 30th, 2027 with an average pay rate exceeding $50 per hour.
