**Renovation of Boston-Owned White Stadium Now Projected at $325 Million**
The City of Boston’s contribution to the renovation of the city-owned White Stadium in Franklin Park is now projected to reach $135 million, up from the original estimate of $50 million. Mayor Michelle Wu announced the updated figures on Friday. Boston Legacy Football Club, a private partner in the project, will contribute at least $190 million, which will be partially financed through a loan from Bank of America.
The planned upgrades for the historic stadium will support both professional women’s soccer and ongoing community use. Under a stadium lease agreement negotiated in December 2024, Boston Legacy FC has committed to providing more than $252 million in community and public benefits over the next 15 years. This marks the largest community benefits agreement in Boston’s history.
“Our partnership with Boston Legacy will have an enduring impact with investments in local businesses, Franklin Park, surrounding communities and our students,” said Mayor Wu.
Despite the progress, the project faces legal challenges. According to the *Boston Business Journal*, two advocacy groups have filed a lawsuit arguing that the transformation of the 1940s-era White Stadium is not a legal use of designated public parkland. The case is currently under consideration by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
