**Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Plans Major Mixed-Use Development in East Valley**
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is planning a transformative development of 270 acres of tribal-owned land in the East Valley region of the Phoenix metro area. Currently, much of the site is used for sand and gravel operations.
A centerpiece of the plan involves utilizing 80 acres of the site for a new, state-of-the-art casino to replace the existing Casino Arizona, which has been in operation since 1998 and is located just north of McKellips Road.
In addition to the new casino, the western portion of the site is expected to feature a variety of mixed-use elements. These include moderate-density hospitality options, street-level retail, office space, and public amenities such as parks and playgrounds, offering both residents and visitors a dynamic community environment.
SRPMIC is open to partnering with developers and businesses on the project. While the Tribe will retain ownership of the land, it plans to make use of 99-year ground leases and may consider joint development agreements. As a sovereign nation, the SRPMIC holds authority over land development within its jurisdiction and does not require approval from any additional governing bodies.
