**AI Tech Talent in San Francisco Bay Area Surges 24% in One Year**

The San Francisco Bay Area continues to lead the nation in artificial intelligence (AI) workforce growth, with a 24% increase in AI-skilled tech talent over the past year, despite a broader slowdown in tech job expansion. According to CBRE’s 2025 Scoring Tech Talent report, the region now boasts 76,079 workers with AI expertise, up from 61,497 in 2024. The New York Metro area ranked second, significantly behind with 47,245 AI professionals.

The rapid expansion of AI-related companies has also revitalized office leasing activity. In the first half of 2025, tech companies accounted for 17% of total U.S. office leasing activity, a sharp increase from 10% in late 2022. In San Francisco alone, AI-focused companies leased 1.1 million square feet of office space during the first six months of the year. Notably, 75% of that leasing represented new growth rather than renewals or relocations.

“The AI industry could be the catalyst for another growth cycle among office-using companies, potentially boosting hiring and future office space demand,” said Colin Yasukochi, Executive Director of CBRE’s Tech Insights Center.

As AI continues to reshape the technology landscape, the Bay Area remains at the forefront of innovation, talent attraction, and commercial real estate resurgence.
