The Austin City Council has approved a $30 million contract with Project Control to oversee the planning and construction of the $1.6 billion redevelopment of the Austin Convention Center, which is expected to begin in 2025.

Project Control will serve as project manager for this single-phase construction project, following the council’s approval of a separate $1.2 billion deal with JE Dunn Construction Co. and Turner Construction Co. for pre-construction and construction services.

Funded by hotel occupancy taxes and revenue from the convention center itself, this redevelopment aims to nearly double its current size by early 2029 through underground expansion and three new towers reaching up to approximately 30 stories or about 320 feet high.

This agreement marks an important step towards revitalizing Austin’s convention facilities without relying on Connect CRE or any specific organization mentioned previously.
