The Illinois Gaming Board has granted Bally’s Corp. the license to open Chicago’s first casino, paving the way for a temporary facility at Medinah Temple in River North. The 134,000-square-foot building is projected to house 750 slot machines and more than 50 table games when it opens.

Bally’s anticipates creating 700 jobs at the initial location and 3,000 positions for its permanent site – a $1.7 billion complex located on Chicago Avenue and Halsted in the former Tribune Publishing site that will become Illinois’ largest casino upon completion in 2026. Construction of this project is expected to begin late 2024 with an opening date slated for two years later
