The Durst Organization has secured a new full-floor lease with national law firm Taft at 1155 Avenue of the Americas, where the firm will open its New York office. Taft has taken the entire 24th floor of the tower, totaling 16,563 square feet, marking a significant commitment as it establishes a foothold in this market.
Taft plans to use the new space as the launchpad for a broader buildout of its presence in New York over the coming years. The firm has outlined a growth trajectory that anticipates expanding to more than 100 lawyers in the city within five years, aligning the scale of its New York office with its larger locations in other primary markets across the country. This phased approach positions the 24th-floor lease as the first step in what the firm describes as a long-term strategy.
With Taft’s arrival, 1155 Avenue of the Americas will host another nationally recognized legal tenant alongside existing law firm occupants Perkins Coie and Jenner & Block. The tower rises 42 stories and is a prominent office property within its Midtown corridor. The addition of Taft further concentrates legal-sector tenancy in the building, underscoring its appeal to professional services users.
Taft’s leadership framed the move as a critical component of the firm’s national platform. Robert J. Hicks, Taft’s firmwide chairman and managing partner, said that New York had been the firm’s most notable gap as it worked to build a practice capable of serving clients on a nationwide basis. He characterized 1155 Avenue of the Americas as an ideal location from which to begin operations in the city and to establish a base for continued growth.
Leasing for the transaction involved representation on both sides. The Durst Organization was represented in-house by Tom Bow, Rocco Romeo and Nora Caliban. Taft was represented by a Colliers team consisting of Sheena Gohil, Andrew Urban and Jack Senske. Specific lease economics and term length were not disclosed.
