Hyatt is preparing to introduce its Standard brand to Texas with the planned launch of The Standard, Austin, marking the brand’s first outpost in the state. The new flag will result from a conversion and renovation of the existing South Congress Hotel at 1603 South Congress Ave in Austin, transitioning the property into a Standard-branded destination while maintaining its established address along the South Congress corridor.
The project is described as a collaboration between Hyatt and Timberline Real Estate Partners, with both parties involved in repositioning the current hotel into The Standard, Austin. The conversion approach centers on upgrading and rebranding an operating hospitality asset rather than ground-up development, with the refreshed property expected to offer an updated guest experience under Hyatt’s lifestyle-focused Standard banner.
Planned programming for The Standard, Austin will emphasize social and experiential elements. According to the announcement, the hotel is expected to feature social wellness experiences, a rooftop pool, and restaurants and bars, reinforcing its role as a hospitality and gathering hub within the neighborhood. These components are intended to align the new flag with the area’s existing character while expanding its activation and amenities for guests and visitors.
Hyatt’s Austin-based Bunkhouse brand team will support the transition, with a stated goal of preserving continuity with the neighborhood’s distinctive design language and community sensibility. The Standard brand team has an established relationship with Bunkhouse, having worked closely with the Bunkhouse Hotels team and their Austin properties for more than a decade, and that history is expected to inform the repositioning of the South Congress asset into a Standard-branded hotel.
Operationally, the South Congress Hotel is scheduled to close for renovations in Summer 2026 to allow for the conversion work to proceed. Following that closure and renovation period, The Standard, Austin is slated to open and welcome its first guests in Spring 2027, establishing a new Hyatt-affiliated lifestyle hotel presence on South Congress Avenue while building on the existing hotel’s neighborhood ties.
