H-E-B is advancing plans for two new retail projects in the City of Garland, adding both a flagship H-E-B store and a Joe V’s Smart Shop to its North Texas presence.
The first initiative centers on a vacant shopping center at the northeast corner of Centerville Road and LBJ Freeway. H-E-B intends to revitalize the approximately seven-acre property, converting it into a new Joe V’s Smart Shop. The concept is described as an innovative price format designed to offer fresh, high-quality products at the lowest prices in the marketplace. Construction at the site is expected to begin in the coming months, marking a reuse of a previously inactive retail asset.
The new location will become North Texas’ fourth Joe V’s Smart Shop and will expand the footprint of the banner in the region. Joe V’s Smart Shop is part of H-E-B’s family of brands and, according to the company, currently operates 14 stores in North Texas and Houston. The investment in the Garland shopping center is planned as a significant upgrade of the vacant property to accommodate the new store.
The second project involves H-E-B’s plan to develop a full-line H-E-B store on a 21-acre site situated between Crist Road and Firewheel Parkway, just off President George Bush Turnpike. The retailer has identified the tract for a new flagship store serving north Garland, but the purchase of the property has not yet been finalized. The proposed store would further expand H-E-B’s regional footprint and create an additional grocery option within the community once development proceeds.
Across both projects, H-E-B expects to invest $19.6 million in the flagship store in north Garland and $8.5 million to upgrade the vacant shopping center that will house the Joe V’s Smart Shop. The combined investment underscores the company’s commitment to growth in the area, while also bringing new life to an underutilized retail site and planning a large-format store on a sizable land parcel.
