**Northeastern University Breaks Ground on 1,215-Bed Dormitory Tower**

Northeastern University has officially begun construction on a new 23-story residence hall at 840 Columbus Avenue in Boston. Scheduled for completion in 2028, the facility will house more than 1,200 students and marks the latest development in the university’s efforts to expand on-campus housing.

The project is the second major student housing initiative developed through a collaboration between Northeastern University, the City of Boston, and developer American Campus Communities. It follows the success of LightView, which opened in 2019.

One of the key goals of building the new dormitory is to help free up university-owned off-campus housing units for the general rental market in Boston. “Every student housed on campus is a unit freed up off campus,” said Mayor Michelle Wu during the groundbreaking ceremony.

Designed by the architectural firm Elkus Manfredi, the new tower will include 1,215 beds, 4,000 square feet of local retail space, 124,000 square feet of academic space, and 18,000 square feet of community space. The development fulfills Northeastern’s on-campus housing commitments outlined in its 2013 Institutional Master Plan.
