Publix Buys Six Retail Centers Including Five in Central Florida for $130M+

Publix Super Markets has purchased a portfolio of six retail centers, including five in Central Florida, for a total of $130.4 million. The properties, all anchored by Publix stores, represent a combined 411,980 square feet of retail space.

The Florida locations are spread across Orlando, Lake Mary, Windermere, Fort Myers, and St. Cloud. An additional center in Newnan, Georgia, was also part of the portfolio acquisition. All six shopping centers were originally developed by Maury L. Carter & Associates.

The transaction was co-brokered with CBRE, which, along with Maury L. Carter Management Corporation, represented the seller.

This acquisition continues a trend for Publix, which often purchases the retail centers it anchors in order to maintain greater control over its real estate footprint. Notably, the company recently acquired the Polo Club Shops in Doral, a 134,000-square-foot shopping center, for $83 million from Jamestown Properties. In addition, Publix has made retail property purchases in West Kendall and Davie, where it also operates stores.

These strategic acquisitions underline Publix’s long-term investment in its store locations and its commitment to maintaining a strong presence in key Southeastern markets.
