**McHugh Construction and Nacional Group Break Ground on New Community Center in Elmhurst**
McHugh Construction, in partnership with Nacional Group, has officially broken ground on the new Joanne B. Wagner Community Center in Elmhurst, Illinois. The ceremony marked the start of demolition for the old facility, located at 615 N. West Ave., with a grand opening of the new center anticipated in fall 2027.
The $84.95 million project will feature a state-of-the-art, 127,250-square-foot, two-story facility—nearly four times the size of the former center. The new Wagner Community Center has been designed to meet growing community demand for expanded recreation and early childhood programming.
Designed by the Elmhurst office of architecture and engineering firm Dewberry, the new community center will include an indoor artificial turf field and a full-size gymnasium capable of hosting multiple sports. The building will also feature a mass timber ceiling and a dynamic exterior combining masonry, metal panels, a glass curtain wall, and precast concrete elements.
Local leaders and project stakeholders attended the groundbreaking to celebrate the beginning of a transformative development that will serve as a hub for community engagement and programming for years to come.
