Mata Construction to Lead Next Phase of Terminal 2 Refresh at LAX
Mata Construction Services, Inc., a Los Angeles–based general contractor, has been selected by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to lead the next phase of the Terminal 2 Refresh at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The company will serve as the general contractor for two major construction packages in this phase of the project.
The Terminal 2 Refresh is designed to address outstanding infrastructure gaps and enhance both vertical and horizontal connectivity within the terminal. These improvements are essential to accommodate projected increases in passenger traffic. This project is part of a broader initiative to modernize terminals 2 and 3, including the recently completed “Sky Way” project. That $2.3 billion public-private partnership with Delta Air Lines upgraded key areas such as ticketing, security, and baggage claim.
“We’re proud to partner with LAWA to build the next generation of infrastructure and facilities at LAX,” said Nick Mata, founder and president of Mata Construction. “This effort goes beyond construction—it’s about creating opportunity and strengthening local partnerships. LAWA is setting the standard by engaging local firms like ours and showing how public investment can truly uplift the communities it serves.”
The Terminal 2 Refresh reflects LAWA’s ongoing commitment to modernizing the airport experience while investing in local economic and workforce development.
