**Gilbane and University of Rhode Island Partner to Expand On-Campus Housing**
The University of Rhode Island (URI) and Gilbane have officially reached financial close on a transformative public-private partnership aimed at modernizing on-campus housing at the Kingston Campus. This initiative marks the first phase of URI’s comprehensive housing master plan.
Construction is set to begin later this month on three new residence halls totaling 1,100 beds. The first of these halls is scheduled to welcome students by fall 2027.
As part of the project, Gilbane will construct two apartment-style residence halls on Flagg Road and redevelop the Graduate Village Apartments on Route 138. The Flagg Road buildings will add 914 new beds to the undergraduate housing stock, while the redesigned Graduate Village will expand graduate student housing capacity to 200 beds by fall 2028.
“We’re seeing more and more students who want to live on campus—close to their classes, friends, and everything that makes our URI community so special,” said URI President Marc Parlange. “Expanding our on-campus housing will give students even more access to the resources and amenities that support their success.”
This major investment underscores URI’s commitment to enhancing student life and meeting growing demand for on-campus living.
